The Rubi Red Story
Rubi Red’s story began in 2015 watching a documentary on TV in which the host of the show was visiting a Papua New Guinean coffee producer. Tasting a coffee cherry he explains how it “Tastes like a cherry” and is “Very sweet”. This was a light bulb moment for us. If it’s edible, tastes like a cherry and is very sweet, why aren't we utilising it?…
And the seed for Rubi Red was sown. From that point on we were obsessed with the idea, but unsure of how we were to go about making it.
We later discovered that some countries dry the coffee skins and use it to make a tea called Quishr, Hashara, Sultana and Cascara. This was the breakthrough we needed to make the drink possible and Rubi Red was born.
After years of formula experimentation, we signed on with a drinks company and then we were subsequently dropped by them when they moved.
So in 2021 we launched “Rubi Red Coffee Fruit Tea” independently. With no budget for marketing we learnt the hard way that it pays to do some market research before launching a brand, as people loved the drink. But were put off by the product name. So it was back to the drawing board.
Rebranded as Cascara, with new packaging and formulation that sees us dropping the sugar for all natural sweeteners, Rubi Red Cascara is here!!
